.A breezy cool front came through our area today, but still no rain. The dryness reminded me of the garden paintings of American Impressionist Theodore Robinson, where women appear tending the gardens & constantly at the well for more water. Thought I would share them with you.

.Here are 3 of my favorite water paintings by American Impressionist Theodore Robinson. My very favorite is the wonderful boy fishing. I know it is not a woman, but I just cannot help myself.

.
I finally remembered a woman on the water by Theodore Robinson. This painting has everything, a woman in dressy clothing alone in a boat with a dog. Perhaps there is a fan, or a parasol, or some goldfish hidden in the bottom of the boat somewhere. You never know. The woman and her dog are both identified. Who could ask for more...

American Theodore Robinson (1852-1896) studied at the Chicago School of Design & then at the National Academy of Design in New York, before he left on his first trip to France in 1876. Returning to New York 3 years later, he taught painting & worked on mural decorations with John La Farge & Prentice Treadwell. In 1884, he departed once again for France, where he remained for nearly a decade absorbing the evolving Impressionist style. The women painted here are in the countrysides of both America & France.
.American artist William Merritt Chase (1848-1916) had a way of capturing the light of late summer on the Atlantic coast in everyday landscapes. In these paintings, he uses his wife and his children as models. He wrote, "Do not try to paint the grandiose thing. Paint the commonplace so that it will be distinguished."
