Late Summer on the Atlantic Coast by William Merritt Chase (1848-1916)

.American artist William Merritt Chase (1848-1916) had a way of capturing the light of late summer on the Atlantic coast in everyday landscapes. In these paintings, he uses his wife and his children as models. He wrote, "Do not try to paint the grandiose thing. Paint the commonplace so that it will be distinguished."
